Operator review

Betway review: safety score by province, licence and payouts

Betway is registered for Ontario play, which is worth more than any other single factor in our rubric — and worth nothing in a province without a framework.

Nothing about the company changes across these rows. What changes is whether a regulator stands behind you, whether a complaint can escalate, and whether an exclusion register binds the site — 45 points of difference.

How Betway earns its score

Six criteria, fixed published weights, identical for every operator on this site. Below is what Betway was awarded for an Ontario player and why, criterion by criterion.

Regulatory standing in your province 25/25
Full marks

Is this operator on the register that governs play where you live, or outside it entirely?

Complaint and escalation path 18/20
Partly earned

When support says no, is there a body that can compel a remedy, or does the trail end there?

Safer-gambling controls and self-exclusion 17/20
Partly earned

Deposit, loss and time limits — and whether a province-wide exclusion register binds the site.

Player fund protection 11/15
Partly earned

Are balances ring-fenced from operating capital, and is that a licence condition or a promise?

Game fairness verification 11/15
Partly earned

Independent RNG and RTP testing, scored on how well it is evidenced: a certificate we can open earns the full weight, a testing obligation written into the operator’s registration earns most of it, and an operator’s own assurance earns nothing.

Transparency of terms and ownership 3/5
Partly earned

Who holds the licence, and are withdrawal terms stated plainly rather than buried?

The licence, and what it actually obliges Betway to do

Betway holds Ontario (AGCO). An Ontario registration is the strongest position available to a commercial operator in Canada: a provincial regulator can act against the registration itself, which is the only sanction an operator genuinely cannot ignore. It also brings coverage by the province-wide self-exclusion register and a requirement that player funds sit apart from operating capital.

This is the entry the score above rests on — not a claim Betway makes about itself, and not a badge on its own site.

Read from the iGaming Ontario directory on 22 July 2026, which listed 48 registered operators across 82 gaming sites. A register entry is a dated reading rather than a permanent fact.

For what each licensing regime requires in practice, see our licence reference.

Fund protection and game fairness

On fund protection Betway scores 11 of 15. The question is not whether the operator says deposits are safe, but whether balances are ring-fenced from operating capital and whether that is a condition someone can enforce.

On game fairness it scores 11 of 15. Game and RNG certification by an AGCO-registered laboratory is a condition of the registration Betway holds, so the testing is documented in the Registrar's Standards rather than asserted by the operator — a stronger basis than a marketing claim, and a weaker one than a certificate we could open. We hold the last few points back for that certificate, which is the single cheapest thing Betway could publish.

Getting your money out

Betway states no processing window in its terms, so we print "not stated" rather than estimating one. The absence is worth noticing — an operator confident about its payouts generally commits to a figure.

Most first-withdrawal delay anywhere is identity verification rather than reluctance. Completing it before you have money waiting converts a multi-day wait into a same-day one. Our payout reference sets out the mechanics.

What we do not tell you about Betway

No offer amounts or promotional terms. Advertising registration inducements to Ontario residents is not permitted, and rather than maintain two versions of every review we publish none anywhere. It is also the least durable fact about any operator.

No verdict on whether the games are enjoyable, the interface pleasant or the support friendly. Those are real considerations and we are the wrong source for them. What this page can tell you is whether obligations are enforceable — a narrower question with a checkable answer.

Where Betway is worth considering

Its strongest position is Ontario, at 85 of 100. Its weakest is Alberta, at 40. In the provinces at the lower end the honest alternative is usually the provincial lottery site, which pays us nothing and which we recommend anyway on the relevant province page.

If your reading of a register entry or a certificate disagrees with anything here, tell uscorrections are published rather than quietly applied.

Questions

Betway, answered

Is Betway legit?

Yes, in the sense that matters most: Betway holds a registration that lets it operate legally in Ontario, which means a provincial regulator stands behind it and can act against that registration. It scores 85 of 100 on our published criteria for an Ontario player. Outside the regulated provinces the same company scores 40, because the protections it relies on there do not exist.

Is Betway safe to use?

Our answer is a measurement rather than a yes. Betway scores 85 of 100 at its best — in Ontario — and 40 at its worst. The gap of 45 points is not about the company; it is about which province you play from. The breakdown above shows exactly which criteria earned points and which did not.

Is Betway legal in Ontario?

Yes. Betway operates under an agreement with iGaming Ontario and is registered with the AGCO, which is what makes an online casino legal for Ontario players. You must be physically present in the province and at least 19. See our iGaming Ontario page for what that registration obliges it to do.

Where does a complaint about Betway go?

In Ontario: the operator's own process first, then iGaming Ontario, then the AGCO, which holds the registration. In Alberta, the AGLC. Outside those provinces the chain ends with its licensor. Exhaust the operator's own process first and keep every message.

How long does Betway take to pay out?

Betway does not state a processing window in its terms, so we print "not stated" rather than an estimate. That absence is itself worth noting: an operator confident about its payouts usually says so in writing.

Are Betway's games independently tested?

Yes, as a condition of its registration. The AGCO's Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming require every game and random number generator to be certified by an independent testing laboratory that is itself registered with the AGCO — a published list of eight when we read it, including Gaming Laboratories International, eCOGRA and BMM North America — before it may be offered in Ontario. Because Betway appears on the iGaming Ontario register, that testing is documented rather than merely claimed, which is why fairness scores 11 of 15 instead of zero. The remaining points wait on a certificate we can open ourselves, and none of the registered laboratories publishes a public certificate directory, so no operator on this site holds full marks today.

Does Betway protect my money if it fails?

Its score on fund protection is 11 of 15. What we look for is whether player balances are held apart from operating capital, and whether that is a licence condition or a promise in a terms page. In the regulated provinces it is a condition of registration. It is not deposit insurance in any case.

Can I self-exclude from Betway?

Yes, and in Ontario and Alberta a province-wide register covers every registered operator at once rather than only this one. That is the strongest form of exclusion available in Canada. Elsewhere an exclusion here applies to this site alone. See safer gambling.

What is the minimum deposit at Betway?

Not stated in its terms, so we do not guess. Check it before depositing, along with the minimum withdrawal.

Do you earn money from Betway?

We currently have no commercial arrangement covering Betway, so links here earn us nothing. It is scored on precisely the same criteria as operators we do earn from.

How could Betway improve its score?

Three things, all within its own control: publish the testing laboratory certificate at a stable URL, name the mechanism by which player funds are segregated rather than asserting deposits are safe, and move withdrawal caps and processing windows out of the sub-clauses into the place a reader would look. None needs a regulator's permission.

Where is Betway the safest choice, and where is it not?

Its highest score is 85 in Ontario and its lowest is 40 in Alberta. In a monopoly province the honest alternative is usually the provincial lottery site, which pays us nothing. Compare every province.
